Joiaman Cunha Oliveira es un artista brasileño nacido en Bahía el 1 de junio de 1971. Su nombre artístico es Joiaman.
Pedagoga en formación, siempre ha considerado el estudio y la educación como una salvación. Desde temprana edad siempre se sintió atraída por la expresividad artística y su curiosidad fue una llama viva que le permitió comprender su lugar en el mundo. El contacto con el desierto, en los alrededores de su Bahía, fue un elemento significativo de su juventud y de su camino de crecimiento. Así como sus numerosas participaciones en representaciones teatrales amateurs y concursos literarios, donde Joaiman obtuvo reconocimiento por sus poemas y sus creaciones literarias cordel (un tipo de poema popular escrito en rima). Pero a pesar de ello, el artista sintió que faltaba algo en su búsqueda creativa. Así que en 1991 las cosas finalmente cambiaron.
Al asistir a una exposición de pinturas y esculturas en su Salvador de Baia, Joaimán siente que algo se está poniendo patas arriba en su vida. Queda cautivada por los colores y la plasticidad de las obras, y por dentro se da cuenta de que ver un cuadro de cerca por primera vez es una experiencia fantástica. En ese mismo momento el mundo que la rodea comienza a girar nuevamente en la dirección correcta, y para Joaiman todo mágicamente comienza a ganar significado. En el año 2000 participó en su primera exposición en su ciudad natal, donde presentó obras al óleo y collage. Un año después, con la ayuda financiera de empresarios locales que creen en su talento, creó el proyecto “Officina A Luce Della Arti”, en el que grupos de niños y adolescentes de zonas desfavorecidas de Brasil participan en aulas de arte y desarrollan pinturas y literatura que culminan en una presentación pública. Apasionada por Modigliani y Picasso, quienes para la autora siempre han sido auténticos modelos artísticos, Joaiman intenta transmitir en sus obras un velo de erotismo, mezclado con dulzura, serenidad y armonía. Sus obras están marcadas por colores fuertes, donde abundan amarillos, rojos y negros vibrantes. El artista nunca ha negado sus raíces bahianas, y quizás por ello influye en sus obras, siempre generosas en color y emoción. “Nacemos mortales pero el pincel nos hace eternos”.

From an early age she has always been drawn to artistic expressiveness, and her curiosity about it has been a living flame that has allowed her to understand her place in the world. Contact with the wild nature around her Bahia was a significant element of her youth and growth path. As were the numerous participations in amateur theatrical performances, and in literary competitions, where Joaiman was appreciated for her poems and for her literary creations cordel (a type of popular poem written in rhyme).
But despite this, the artist felt that something was missing from her creative pursuit. So in 1991 things finally changed. Attending an exhibition of paintings and sculptures in her Salvador de Baia, Joaiman feels that something is upside down in her life. She is enraptured by the colors and plasticity of the works, and deep down she realizes that seeing a painting up close for the first time is a fantastic experience. At that precise moment the world around her starts turning in the right direction, and for Joaiman everything magically begins to make sense. In 2000 she participates in her first exhibition in her hometown, where she presents works in oils and collages. A year later, with the financial help of local entrepreneurs who believed in her talent, she created the “Officina A Luce Della Arti” project, in which groups of children and adolescents from disadvantaged areas of Brazil participate in art classrooms and develop pictorial works and literature culminating in a public presentation.
Passionate about Madigliani and Picasso, who for her author have always been authentic artistic models, Joaiman tries to convey in her works a veil of eroticism, mixed with sweetness, serenity and harmony. Her works are marked by strong colors, with an abundance of vibrant yellows, reds and blacks. The artist has never denied her Bahian roots, and perhaps because of this influence her works are always generous in color and feeling. “We were born mortal but the brush makes us eternal”.
