He was born in Battipaglia on February 12, 1980.
In the mid-nineties he began his artistic career by approaching Street Art and frequenting the world of Campanian artists, particularly in Naples. Fascinated by the work of exponents of Street Photography, he also delves into photographic technique through targeted studies. Traveling to Italy, visiting exhibitions and galleries, is a source of great inspiration and enrichment for Villano.
The motivation to pursue his artistic career is growing thanks to the observation and study of the greats of contemporary art, with particular attention to the exponents of Pop Art.
Villano's personal research thus takes shape and is constantly enriched by the continuous experimentation with unusual techniques and materials such as newspaper clippings and posters, later used in his first collages.
However, it is after two great encounters, the one with Andy Warhol and Mimmo Rotella, that Domenico finds his style, fusing the insights of the father of Pop Art with Rotella's technique.
The result will be, as stated by Professor Vittorio Sgarbi, “an informal art, very festive and of instinctive liberation”. A cheerful and lively mix characterized by the finish with enamels and acrylics. Favorite subjects, besides Monroe and Loren, are the great icons of the past. The insertion of phrases and messages further transform the canvases into real posters. Along the way, Villani discovers the plexiglass that in the Crucifixions entitled “One God” becomes the undisputed protagonist.
The work in that context takes on a deeper meaning and embraces the intention of communicating a message to the world during this period of great labor, which can be summarized in a clear invitation to reflection and the transformation of consciences as Picasso had suggested some time earlier with his words: “Art shakes from the soul the dust accumulated in everyday life.”
Domenico Villano was born in Battipaglia on 12 February 1980.
In the mid-90s he started his artistic career, approaching the world of streetartis and subsequently attending the Neapolitan and Campania artistic circles.
He became passionate about photography and the encounter with some exponents of street photography led him to deepen his studies also in this field. The many trips around the Italian exhibitions and galleries will influence him a lot, starting a period based on the study of great contemporary artists, which will bring him closer and closer to the world of pop art. From this experience he will start his research that created his style, allowing him to discover new techniques and materials such as newspaper clippings and posters.
This is how the first collages will be born. But it is after two great meetings, that is with AndyWarhol and the one with Mimmo Rotella, that Domenico decides to create his personal style, merging the intuitions of the father of the pop art, with the technique of a great Italian master like Rotella. The result will be, as also stated by Professor Vittorio Sgarbi, “an informal, very festive and instinctive release” art. A cheerful and lively mix recognizable even more with the intuition to complete the work with enamels and acrylics. The favorite subjects, besides Monroe and Loren, are the great icons of the past. The inclusion of phrases and messages of various inspirations have meant that the works become real manifestos.
The latest productions have led to the inclusion in the works of new materials such as plexiglass. In particular, in the crucifixions entitled “A single God”, plexiglass becomes the protagonist and the work takes on a very profound meaning: a clear message to the world, which today is experiencing difficult moments of great change. Art, therefore, as a vehicle for reflection, apt to shake consciences and to make people reflect on opinions that are often often not very personal.
Basically, as Picasso said, “art shakes the dust accumulated in everyday life from the soul”.
