Lusi Dì

Born in Salerno on January 22, 1976

Lucia De Rosa, aka Lusi Dì, was born in Salerno on January 22, 1976.
She attended technical studies, graduated in Naples from the Institute of Physical Education, and was a former professional volleyball player in the national championships, series B1 and B2.
As a child, she began drawing from comics to still lifes, drawings on silk fabrics. Passionate about every art form, she decided to express her creative flair by transferring her imagination and emotion to canvas. In 1986, on Easter Day, Lucia was almost 10 years old and had to bring to church the classic gifts given during Easter Mass. She decided to draw the face of Jesus; he was so expressive that he seemed to be speaking. He handed him over to the church “St. Peter Paul” where an African priest was celebrating Mass that evening; he went to the sacristy and, under the incredulous eyes of those present, handed over his first work of art.
The priest looked at her and said: “If you come to visit me in Africa one day you will find it on display in my church.”
His eyes shone with joy and so did those of his mother who witnessed it. Her mother denied her the right to attend art high school, preferring other, more concrete studies.
In adulthood she returned to her childhood passion. The styles he masters are “pouring” which consists of pouring the fluid paint directly onto the canvas, “action painting” similar to the previous technique, but characterised by the violence of the colours, the freedom of the marks and the vastness of the surfaces and, finally, “dripping” which involves the formation of random patches or lines following the dripping of the colours from above.
A’ creative and original artist who, through a skillful and joyful play of bright and intense colors, expertly combined, conveys the essential and primordial desire for freedom. The observer recognizes in her a great humanity and a precious sensitivity which, together with talent, give life to elegant and enchanting depictions, immersed in idyllic atmospheres.
